back to normality?

strange things happened. natascha kampusch (no chance you've not heard of her, even in the deepest jungle or widest desert) gave her first interview on tv last wednesday. yesterday a poll was published in which one third of all men said they would marry her. even a presenter of a popular morning radio show told the audience he felt in love with her the moment she appeared on tv. of course she somehow is a impressive young lady who deserves help and attention to a decent degree, nonetheless it's weird to make a sudden hype or fashion symbol of her.

[and yes: we did watch the interview as did nearly 2.2 million austrians, too. and then we switched to cnn where they reported live from the scene. which was even stranger: on a tv channel where we are used to watch american troops rampaging in baghdad or kabul and george w. vs. osama there were suddenly pictures of strasshof (on the outskirts of vienna), the small houses there, the neigbours giving interviews (still, yes, of course sir, trembling and terribly shocked), petite austrian bourgeoisie at it's best. what a small world. and what a pity: mozart wasn't there.]
